One of the largest villages in the region of Valtos, in Amfilochia, is Loutro. It is built on the eastern shores of Amvrakikos gulf and combines beautiful beaches with large green areas.
It is a favorite destination for those who love cycling and hiking in nature. If you take your walk through the village, you will end up at the sanctuary of Agios Nikolaos, since almost all the roads lead you to this point.
Rafting in Acheloos
Acheloos is the second longest river in Greece and the richest in water! It originates from the mountain range of Pindos through a beautiful route of several kilometers. Live the ultimate rafting experience that will be unforgettable. The route is 109 km, but if you love adventure, it will not be an obstacle for you.
Alternative experience
The wild horses of Petala Etoloakarnania
They are descendants of the same breed, the horses of Pindos, according to experts, known for their resistance to hardships, a breed chosen by Alexander the Great for his campaign and his army. Locals claim that their total number exceeds 500 and is one of the largest concentrations of free horses in Europe! If you are lucky you will meet them in Petalas at a distance of 20 kilometers from Amfilochia.
Barcarola
One of the biggest summer cultural events in the city of Amfilochia is the barcarola. The waters of Amvrakikos are filled with dozens of boats, while locals and visitors enjoy a unique event, with great melodies, as well as an impressive spectacle with many fireworks!
Every first Sunday of August in the evening, Varkarola floods the “nymph of Amvrakikos” with colors and music.
