Lake Kremaston.

It is located between the prefectures of Etoloakarnania and Evrytania and is fed by the waters of four rivers: Acheloos, Agrafiotis, Tauropos and Trikeriotis. Its coastline reaches 90 kilometers and was created in 1966 after the construction of the Kremasto Dam.

Limnaia

The ancient city has been famous since the time of the Peloponnesian war and is literally…two steps from Amfilochia. During the Middle Ages, its castle was the seat of the Venetians. A walk in this area today is very charming as the ruins of the medieval buildings and the whole aura of the location is magical.

Amvrakikos Gulf.

It is one of the largest closed bays in Greece and is one of the national parks of Greece due to its ecological importance and the environmental pressures it receives.

The Retha

The Holy Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin Retha or “Ta Retha”. It is located on a low hill of Mount Makrynoros, in the province of Valtos and is 31 km from Amfilochia. The monastery is considered the holiest pilgrimage, perhaps of the entire prefecture of Etoloakarnania

Armchairs.

The ruined, today, village of Amvrakia was built in the 9th century BC. from the inhabitants of Limnaia who moved to the area to avoid the frequent pirate raids. During the Turkish occupation it was the capital of Kaza or Vilayet of Valtos. In 1684, Amvrakia and the church of Panagia Amvrakiotissa were destroyed by the Pasha of Arta.

Templa Bridge

Built at the beginning of the 20th century with specifications for long-term use, it relieved the villages of the area, those of Valtos on the right bank and those of Evrytania on the other side, allowing them to communicate.

Ebesou Castle

In this castle lived Karolos II Tokkos “the last defender of Akarnania when the Turks invaded”. It is possible that it is so but there is not much evidence that certifies this fact but it is not improbable that the castle is indeed related to the family of the Toccos who were French from Sicily and had been Italianized and in the end, essentially, Greekized. The Tokkos were the masters of the area from the mid-14th to the mid-15th century.

The captivating beauty of Lake Voulkaria

A unique getaway just outside of Vonitsa in a place that lends itself to many different activities. It is only 44.6 km from Amfilochia and is a good choice for nature lovers. It is a lake suitable for a nature walk, boating in its mysterious waters, fishing or a walk to harvest natural edible grasses. Undoubtedly, it is a magical wetland that will enchant you both with its wild flora and its peculiar fauna. The lake is a bird migration corridor, while its wetland is of international importance. Coots, Ducks, Herons and quite rare Otters can be seen in the lake.
